Lakers Trade Rumors: Shaq Back to Lakers?

This trade would be one hell of a stretch, but anything is possible in professional sports these days.

It was a surprise enough to see the Lakers making a trade for small forward in Adam Morrison in exchange for sharp shooting Vladimir Radmanovic, but it would be huge to see Shaq in a Lakers uniform again, but then again it could be a disaster.

About a month ago Shaq said he wouldn't mind going back to play for the Lakers under Phil Jackson and alongside Kobe Bryant. He even said the whole Kobe/Shaq feud was due to the media building something out of nothing. He probably finally came to the realization that the Phoenix Suns aren't going anywhere and the Lakers are the favorites to come out of the West for the next two, three maybe five seasons.

Although Shaq said he was up for the idea of playing in LA, the possibility of it actually happens seemed nearly impossible, especially with Andrew Bynum becoming the dominant force in the paint. After Bynum went down recently and with the constant trade rumors in Phoenix, Shaq coming back to LA might not be so far fetched as it once seemed to be.

The real question is what will the Lakers give up in return and will it be worth taking on Shaq and the baggage he might bring to a championship contender.

The trade buzz flying around in Phoenix right now is that no one, besides Steve Nash, is untouchable right now. The biggest barginning chip and trade bait the the Suns have to play with is All Star Amare Stoudamire who could drastically improve any team he may go to.

Other players possibly packaged with Stoudamire are Leandro Barbosa, Matt Barnes and Shaq as an outside possibility due to his big contract. If Shaq does get traded again it will have to be in either in a huge blockbuster three way deal with Stoudamire involved or a separate deal altogether.

The Lakers trade rumor involving Shaq would include Lamar Odom, Chris Mihm and DJ Mbenga headed to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for the center that helped bring three championships to LA not all that long ago.

Will this trade go down?

Probably not. I really don't see the Lakers throwing Shaq into the mix and getting rid Lamar Odom while he is playing so well. Then again Odom's value may not get any higher than right now and if they were to move him this would be the time with his contract up at the end of the season.

Should the Lakers make this trade?

Maybe. Pau Gasol is obviously no center and waiting for Bynum to recover again may result in the same out come when it comes to playoff time. Shaq is a proven winner, playing better than he has in years and he knows Phil Jackson's triangle offense better than any center in the league including Andrew Bynum. The problem is losing Lamar Odom. Without Odom the Lakers might be more exposed than they are without Bynum. Odom brings somewhat of an x-factor to the Lakers where he can play any position and is as versatile as they come.

If the Lakers acquire Shaq, it's over. Give them the title.

We don't need Shaq Back in LA. But it would be nice if we would trade for Shaq but not including Odom in the package. Get rid of Walton, Sue,DJ or Mihm. But would Shaq want to come off the bench? Or will Bynum want to come off the bench?

Dwayne soders. This is the trade the lakers want to make, there is no way on gods green earth you pass this trade up. Shaq back to the lakers hell yea. Andrew bynum is not the key to the champion ship shaq is still the most dominant center playing the game right now; besides who knows the triangle together better than shaq and kobe the greatest one two punch to ever play the game the point is kobes not getting any younger lamar odem is good but proven to be a passive finals players passes the ball tomuch and doesn't go score. How many times are u gonna see 28 and 16 1 out of 20 games. If the lakers made this trade once the playoffs came it would be a rap, boston would not be able to contend for the championship. Shaq is at the end of his days if he was put in a situation to win another championship and mabey 2 or 3 more championships there's no way he'd let anyone take it away from him. This would motivate shaq to back to the old shaq with kobe, and the best thing about it kobe is a better player now, the best player on the planet so you wouldn't need shaq so much for 25 and 15 more like 20 and 10 and a great defensive prescence along with his experience, even though shaq will be so fueld you would see some 30 and 20 games. There is no way you pass this deal up phill jackson is ready to get out of there but at the same time he wants to take care of business and pass the coach who has 10 champions rings so why not take care of business and get it done. You could kill three birds with one stone shaq gets anther ring phill jacckson makes history and kobe finally gets another ring the lakers would be dumb as hell to pass up this opurtunity

I think the only way Kobe would feel ok with the idea of Shaq coming back is that if they win a championship with out him first. I think Kobe wants everyone to know that he can do it without Shaq. After that I think he would be ok with Shaq coming back.Who knows???

i think it would be best if shaq comes back for one season with the lakers at the end of his contract. I think Shaq should finish his career as a laker, thats where he was best. Shaq should retire in a lakers uniform, and possibly winning a championship

I agree... it will be great if shaq retires in lakers uniform.

Why?... shaq is proven winner in finals the kobster is better now and it will be great if a lakers-boston again..can perkins & KG matchup with shaq... another ring for the lake show baby!!!

This was exactly what I was thinking. Shaq w/ Kobe Bryant is the perfect match for a championship title for this year. Lakers need to get Shaq.

Let's assume a few things. Lakers win the title this year. Kobe gets his ring without Shaq. They make a trade in the off season, bring back Shaq. The Lakers will then try to go for the Bulls 70+ win record. All the talk about who is the best. Jordan and Chicago is the best. Their goal would be to shatter the thought of Chicago and put this Lakers team on the map of being the greatest of all time. The only way the Celtics won was to go back to the 60s and pile up superstarts, why not the Lakers and make history over the next 3 years. Shaq and Kobe would have more rings than Jordan. That's what LeBron and everyone else is working toward...being better than Jordan. Until they surpass 6 rings in this modern era, Jordan is still the best there was, the best there is and the best there will be.

We definitely shouldn't trade for Shaq. IF Shaq comes back, its on his own accord and after his current contract with the Suns is up AND he doesn't resign with another team.

He'll be 38 then, we definitely could use Shaq off the bench (he'll have to acknowledge this is how we'll use him if he ever does want to re-sign with the Lakers), and ideally would be for a one year deal.

If shaq is back in L.A it would be amazing. bynum will learn from an expert user of the triangle offense.
